THE SHOT

Kevin and I are often caught goofing around on the job. I'm admitting this only because it is the best kind of goofing around I can imagine. Sometimes, when we're waiting around for someone to get to the location or change their outfit, Kevin will say, "Photo challenge!" and we compete to get the best shot of something mundane around us. This week, we had an early morning headshot session downtown. While we were waiting for a wardrobe change, Kevin announced that the photo challenge would be to photograph our own shoes. Between fits of giggles over Kevin's shoe-related comments (ex: "Your shoes look like lovers."), I got this shot:

I don't know if I won the photo challenge, but this one jumped out at me. Plus, it reminded me of my days at Starbucks as a barista... (I used to wear those beat-up Chucks.) I'm not really remembering those days fondly (nasty customers and all that), but I do kind of miss the regulars that came in every morning. I still hold firmly to my belief that every single person should be forced to work in food service for at least a year. (Most people need a taste of their own medicine!)

The Frontiers

I have a soft spot in my heart for really good cover bands.

This is another UK Student Activities Board event. As part of Family Weekend at UK, SAB usually tries to bring a cover band that will appeal to a bunch of different age groups, and this year The Frontiers rocked out a bunch of Journey songs in Memorial Hall. My ears were ringing at the end of it because the venue wasn't really built for so much awesome.

The whole band, getting the party started.

Man, I love it when singers are into it.

This guitarist was g-r-e-a-t. Also, guitar playing face = amazing.

A couple with the crowd.

Super cool sunglasses given away for UK's Homecoming celebrations. The theme this year was "Cats Go To Hollywood." Movie star sunglasses are a must.... Duh.

This next one has a nice story behind it. I was up at the front, crawling around snapping pictures of stuff, and the guitarist points to me and motions for me to come closer. So, I get up there (right beside a speaker twice my size) and he says, "I'd like to use your __________." I didn't hear that last word because it was freeeeeeeaking loud. I assumed he said something along the lines of "your photos" or "your stuff" because I was there taking pictures, so I just said, "Ok! Sure!"

Then he said, "Ok, I'll motion to you, and you just give it to me."

Uh, what..? So, instead of anything articulate, I just said, "Huh?"

"One of your shoes. They're neat," he said.

"My.... SHOE?"

"Yes."

"Um.... Ok."

So, when he started his solo during the next song, he was playing all this crazy stuff... He started playing the guitar with a drumstick, and then he motioned for one of my shoes... And I gave it to him. Here's a picture.

I'm pretty disappointed in myself, honestly. I pride myself in having the fiercest shoes around, and the one day that my shoes get the change to be on stage, I'm wearing nerdy-looking, comfortable for photography work sling-backs. The point is: Don't judge those shoes. They are not representative of the rest of my closet.... I promise!

Ok, the last picture is of the drummer. As they were finishing up their last song, I realized that I hadn't gotten very many pictures of him during the concert because my angle wasn't perfect, so I turned my camera to him. It's always neat when the people on stage recognize when you're taking a picture of them and put on more of a show. Here's the drummer using his drum stick to point right at me!

That made me feel like a rockstar.... Kind of.

Whew. I've been the worst at keeping up with my blog lately. I promise to be more consistent. Really!

edit:

I get a lot of e-mails asking about my photo processing. I use Totally Rad Actions. They are totally rad. All the photos in this post were processed using the "Pool Party" action.
